UNEMPLOYMENT RATE FALLS IN WASHINGTON CO. IN AUGUST

  

Washington County’s unemployment rate continued to trend downward in August. 

Per the Texas Workforce Commission, the county’s jobless rate went from 4.9 percent in July to 4.6 percent last month.

The number of unemployed residents in the county declined from 752 in July to 703 in August.

However, overall employment numbers and the civilian labor force also fell from July to August.  Employment shrank from 14,696 to 14,604, while the labor force dropped from 15,448 to 15,307.

In August 2022, the county reported an unemployment rate of 4.1 percent and 619 unemployed residents.

The state’s unemployment rate remained at 4.1 percent for the fourth straight month.

A majority of area counties also saw their unemployment rates either fall or hold steady in August:

  • Austin County – 4.2 percent, unchanged from July.
  • Brazos County – 3.7 percent, down from 3.8 percent.
  • Burleson County – 4.2 percent, up from 4.1 percent.
  • Fayette County – 4 percent, the same from July.
  • Grimes County – 5.1 percent, down from 5.3 percent.
  • Lee County – 3.7 percent, down from 3.9 percent.
  • Waller County – 5.3 percent, no change from July.
