Author Babette Hale will speak on Friday, October 13th at the Cannery Kitchen in Brenham, 314 East Alamo Street.  The program will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In the discussion, Hale will talk about the times authors base fictional characters, encounters and locations off of real-world people, conversations and places, and how those occasions influence her work.

Hale is the author of A Wall of Bright Dead Feathers (TX A&M University Press, 2022), a short story collection set predominantly in the Winedale area.  It received the 2022 Sergio Troncoso Award for Best First Book of Fiction from the Texas Institute of Letters.

Hale’s nonfiction has appeared in Texas Monthly, Houston City Magazine and the Houston Chronicle.  Her personal essay column appears regularly in the Fayette County Record.  Her stories have been awarded the Meyerson Prize from Southwest Review in 2011, shortlisted for the Texas Institute of Letter’s Catarulla Award, and included among the "Other Distinguished Stories" in Best American Short Stories, 2015.  Other work has received a Creative Artist Award from Houston’s Cultural Arts Council and been anthologized.

Registration for the luncheon can be done online at www.lifetimelearningbrenham.org
