15TH ANNUAL SHANE HANCHEY INVITATIONAL THIS WEEKEND
Some of the best calf ropers around will be at the Lee County Sheriff’s Posse Arena in Giddings this weekend.
The 15th Annual Shane Hanchey Invitational, presented by Cinch Jeans and Shirts, will run from tomorrow (Friday) to Sunday.
Fifty contestants will be vying for over $120,000 in prize money.
Events begin at 5 p.m. tomorrow with mugging/tie-down roping for ages 10 and under, followed by breakaway roping for 12 and under and tie-down roping for 15 and under.
On Saturday starting at 9 a.m., ages 12 and under will compete in tie-down roping, then ages 19 and under in tie-down roping, and 10 and under for breakaway roping. There will also be girls breakaway roping for ages 15 and under, followed by girls breakaway roping for 19 and under.
Sunday will begin at 1 p.m. with the open tie-down competition. The last round will be a Calcutta-style cowboy auction with bidding on the top 15 ropers, who will then compete for prizes.
Spectator admission is free tomorrow and Saturday, and $10 for Sunday.
