AUTHOR TO APPEAR AT WASHINGTON COUNTY READ RECEPTION

Brenham Lifetime Learning and Washington County READ invite the public to attend an upcoming reception.

The reception will be held on Tuesday, November 14, at 5:30pm at Unity Theatre in downtown Brenham.

The event features a book signing and remarks from renowned author William Kent Krueger.

Krueger is the author of the 2023 Washington County READ selection, “This Tender Land.”

“This Tender Land” tells the story of four rag tag children in 1932, who run away from an Indian residential school in Minnesota to search for family and belonging.

Enduring neglect, exploitation, and abuse, they discover moments of kindness from each other, and unexpectedly from strangers.

For the first time ever, the READ reception will include music.

Lou-Lou Barber will play tunes on her harmonica and guitar, such as “Beautiful Dreamer” and “Shenandoah.” Those songs and others anchored the children in the book to their dream of leaving grief and loneliness behind.

In addition to the book signing and remarks from Krueger, there will be a dramatic reading, and refreshments will be served.
