A singer/songwriter from Brenham will be taking part in a new TV show entitled, “The Sound of Small Town America.”

Michelle Kay grew up in Brenham and said she developed a passion for singing at the age of four years old.  She has been performing solo since turning 16.

Kay sites her influences as Miranda Lambert, Shania Twain, Stevie Nicks, and Linda Rondstadt.

On October 21, Kay competed in the preliminary competition that was held in Navasota, and was named as a finalist.

Now she is moving on to compete against singers from similar competitions that were held in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Kentucky.

According to their website, “The Sound of Small Town America” is a Christian based talent reality TV show that has been organized by the Inspirational Country Music Association.

The ICMA said they are “looking for new artists who represent hometown values and are drawn to preserving the beauty and history of the country.”

The finals of the competition will be held on May 29, 2024, on stage at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

The Grand Prize is a package that includes a profession songwriting session, the recording of a six-song EP, plus two radio releases from the project.
