BURLESON COUNTY TO HAVE CONTESTED RACE FOR SHERIFF

Burleson County will have a contested race for Sheriff in the March 2024 Republican Primary.

Incumbent Sheriff Gene Hermes filed for re-election on Monday.  He is seeking a second term of office.

Hermes, who had been a long-time deputy, was elected to his first term in 2020.

He is going to be opposed by Somerville Police Chief Jake Sullivan, who has also filed for the office as well.

Sullivan was appointed as the Somerville Police Chief back in 2020.

In other Burleson County Election news,

Precinct One Commissioner Dwayne Faust is seeking a second term.  He will be opposed in the Republican Primary by James Baldwin and Randy Schoppe.

Precinct Three Commissioner David Hildebrand is unopposed thus far in the GOP Primary for a 6th term.

County Attorney Susan Deski has filed for a third term of office, also as a Republican.

Three other Republicans have filed for Constable positions.  In Precinct Two, Dennis Gaas is seeking a 10th four-year term.

In Precinct Three, Jay Boykin has filed for a second term.

Meanwhile in Precinct Four, John Bennett is seeking his first full term of office.  He was appointed back in 2021 to fill a vacancy.
