WILLIE FRITZ NAMED AS THE NEW HEAD COACH FOR THE HOUSTON COUGARS

Willie Fritz

The Houston Cougars have named Willie Fritz as their new head football coach.

Fritz takes the place of Dana Holgerson, who was fired after five seasons at the helm. In their first season in the Big 12, Houston was 4-8 overall and 2-7 in conference.

Fritz comes to Houston after spending the past eight years at Tulane. Over the last two seasons, he led the Green Wave to a 23-4 record.

Fritz is best known locally for leading the Blinn Buccaneers to two NJCAA National Championships in 1995 and 1996.  He has also coached at Central Missouri, Sam Houston State, and Georgia Southern.

With the addition of Fritz, that gives Houston two former Blinn Head Coaches at the helm of major sports for the university. Former Blinn Head Volleyball Coach/Athletic Director David Rehr is the current Head Volleyball Coach for the Cougars.
