SALES TAX REBATES IN DECEMBER UP FOR BRENHAM & BURTON, DOWN FOR WASHINGTON CO.
December’s sales and tax distributions were down for Washington County, but up for the cities of Brenham and Burton.
Washington County’s rebate this month was $351,997, down 6.26 percent from last December’s payment of $375,535. For 2023, the county’s collections totaled $4,715,862, up 9.05 percent from the $4,324,192 it received in 2022.
Brenham received $888,657 in December, an increase of 8.18 percent from the $821,460 brought in last December. The year as a whole saw the city take in $8,860,914, 5.59 percent up from last year’s sum of $8,391,595.
Burton’s December rebate was up by 37.29 percent from a year ago, as it received $13,140 in comparison to $9,571. Throughout the year, the city’s rebates amounted to $103,942, up 12.66 percent from 2022, when it collected $92,254.
Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported that the state paid out $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations this month, up 2.5 percent from last December and up 5.5 percent in total for 2023.
