CITY OF BRENHAM MAKING GOOD PROGRESS IN REPLACING PURPLE STREET LIGHTS

City of Brenham crews continue to work on replacing defective street lights around the city that have the tendency to turn purple.

Public Works Director Dane Rau told city councilmembers on Thursday that the city replaces the faulty LED lights as reports come in, but the number of them still around has dropped considerably.  He said this issue is not exclusive to Brenham, as cities around the country have dealt with similar problems with the lights.

Rau told KWHI last year that in the defective lights, film inside them will start to turn purple after a length of time.  The lights came from the company Acuity, and Rau assured that they were under warranty.

If residents see any purple lights around town, they are asked to contact the City of Brenham at 979-337-7400 and provide the pole number or an address that the light is nearest to, so that it can be changed out with a good bulb.

Rau said there are currently between five to seven bulbs on the work order system, and those should be replaced within the next week.
