BELLVILLE BRAHMAS ARE GOING TO STATE
The Bellville Brahma Football Team faced their toughest challenge of the season, and came away with a 35-33 victory over the Wimberley Texans last (Friday) night to advance to the State Championship Game.
D.J. Sanders got things started with a 28-yard fumble return for a touchdown with 11 minutes left in the first quarter. Fernando Grajales added the extra point to make it 7-0 Bellville.
Wimberley's Owen O'Neal scored on a six-yard touchdown run, and the Texans made the extra point to tie it 7-7 with four minutes left in the first quarter.
The Brahmas scored first in the 2nd quarter on a two-yard run by Sam Hranicky with 10 minutes left to make it 14-7.
Wimberley's Cody Stoever scored the first of his four touchdowns on a one yard run to tie it 14-14 with five minutes left until halftime.
D.D. Murray put Bellville back in front with a 21-yard touchdown run with just under a minute left in the first half, and the Brahmas led 21-14 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Corrian Hood scored on a 69-yard touchdown run to put Bellville up 28-14 with 11 minutes left.
D.D. Murray, on defense, intercepted a pass in the end zone to prevent a Texans score.
Wimberley got it back and scored on a three-yard run by Stoever to cut the lead to 28-21 with two minutes left in the third quarter.
Murray got his second touchdown of the game on a three-yard run to start the fourth quarter. That put Bellville up 35-21 with ten minutes left in the game.
Stoever scored on a two-yard run to cut the lead to 35-27 with seven minutes left. Wimberley missed the extra point. Stoever then scored on a two yard run with less than a minute to go to make it 35-33. Wimberley went for the two point conversion and didn't get it.
Bellville would then recover the onside kick to seal the win.
The Brahmas set a new school record for wins in a season as they improve to 15-0, and it is also the first time Bellville has reached the State Championship Game since 1977.
Hood finished with 10 carries for 121 yards and a touchdown, Murray had 15 carries for 97 yards and two touchdowns, and Hranicky added 14 carries for 49 yards and a touchdown.
Bellville now moves on to face Gilmer in the 4A Division II State Championship Game, which will be played next Friday, December 15, at 3pm at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Gilmer beat Glen Rose in the other semifinal last night 79-42.
Bellville ISD has announced that school will be closed next Friday in order to give everyone the opportunity to attend the game.
