SEVEN CALLS FROM SATURDAY TO MONDAY MORNING FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.

The Brenham Fire Department responded to seven calls between Saturday evening and early this (Monday) morning.

Around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, the department was dispatched to Kruse Village, 1700 East Stone Street, for a fire alarm.  Units made location to find a pull station was activated.  The alarm was reset, and they cleared the scene.

Early Sunday morning, at 1:15 a.m., the department was sent out to the Brenham State Supported Living Center, 4001 Highway 36 South, for a fire alarm.  Firefighters were called off enroute, however, as proper passcode for cancellation was given by the alarm company.

Around 7:15 a.m., units were dispatched for a gas odor at a home in the 400 block of Barbee Street.  Firefighters and the City of Brenham Gas Department arrived and checked the area for a leak or smell.  After investigation, firefighters were released from the scene.

Shortly after 8 a.m., the department received a report of a possible structure fire in the 1100 block of High Street.  Nothing was showing from the exterior of the home, but units eventually found that the source of the smell that the resident detected in the house was the wiring to the furnace.  BFD members turned off the breaker in the attic at the unit and outside at the breaker panel.  Firefighters advised the residents what they found before returning to the station.

Just past 3:15 p.m., the department went out to a home in the 900 block of North Park Street for a gas odor.  BFD members and gas department employees investigated the area for a leak or smell, and the fire department was released from the scene by the gas department.

At 6 p.m., firefighters were called out to Old Masonic Road at Gavin Drive for a fire investigation.  They found a controlled burn and advised dispatch that people were watching the burn before returning to service.

Around 5:45 a.m. today, BFD members responded to a hazmat call at Alexander Oil Company, 1501 FM 389.  They arrived to find a small amount of gas by the fuel pumps and used absorbent to clean up the gas that was spilled before clearing the scene.
