BURTON ISD RECEIVES ‘CLEAN’ AUDIT REPORT
Burton ISD trustees heard a positive 2022-23 fiscal year audit report during their meeting on Monday.
Robert Gattilia of Singleton, Clark & Company told the board that the school district had a “clean” audit with no findings. There were six adjustments, but Gattilia said they were not major. He said for districts of Burton’s size, having fewer than 10 adjustments is “very good.”
Trustees also heard a brief update on the school bond project, although much of the information was similar to what was given to them during a dedicated bond update on November 30th. DSA Construction Management Project Manager Stad Tomlinson did say that the board can expect a detailed financial report when it meets in January.
During her monthly report, Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy thanked DSA, Reliance Architecture and Hellas Construction for providing district staff members with gift cards to Brenham-area businesses and contributing to the Burton Education Foundation.
Dr. Kennedy also provided an enrollment report. As of Monday, the district has 579 students, including 358 at the elementary school and 221 at the secondary school.
In action items, the board cast votes for the Washington County Appraisal District Board of Directors election. Trustees split votes between the three candidates that live in Burton ISD: Leslie Boehnemann Jr. and Halee Stark Kalkhake received 289 votes, and Joe Antkowiak received 288.
