PANTHERS AND LADY PANTHERS EARN WINS

The Burton Panther and Lady Panther Basketball Teams picked up some big wins last (Tuesday) night.

The Panthers won a thriller at the Burton High School Gym with a 44-43 come-from-behind victory over Weimar.

With Burton trailing 43-41 late in the fourth quarter, D'Mitry Schulte fired up a shot from half court that went in just before the final buzzer to give the Panthers the win.

Eli Simank and K.D. Patterson led Burton with 12 points each. Jason Gonzales added 10 points.

The Panthers improved their record to 5-6 on the season. Next up, they are scheduled to host Brazos Wallis on Friday night at 6:15pm.

Meanwhile, the Lady Panthers jumped out to an early lead, and never had to look back as they defeated Brazos Christian 68-53 last (Tuesday) night.

Burton led 30-8 after the first quarter. Brazos Christian outscored Burton 13-10 in the second quarter, but the Lady Panthers were still leading 40-21 at halftime. Burton outscored the Lady Eagles 15-11 in the third quarter, which put them up 55-32. Brazos Christian won the fourth quarter 21-13, but it was not enough to overcome the large early lead by Burton.

The Lady Panthers had four players reach double figures. Tiara Burns led the way with 18 points. Adison Harmel added 17 points. Jennifer Lopez finished with 13 points. Ciara Burns pumped in 12 points.

Next up, Burton (8-5) will be on the road at the Sealy Lady Tigers on Friday night. The opening tip-off is scheduled for 6:15pm.
