AUSTIN COUNTY SHERIFF RECEIVES TXDOT IDM GRANT

The Austin County Sheriff’s Office is taking extra steps to keep local residents safe during the upcoming holiday season.

The Sheriff’s Office has been awarded grant funds through the Texas Department of Transportation’s Impaired Driving Mobilization Program.

The purpose of the grant funds is to allow Sheriff’s Deputies to increase their patrol efforts within concentrated portions of unincorporated Austin County over the Christmas and New Year Holidays.

Sheriff Jack Brandes said that the safety of Austin County residents is his main job, and one that he takes very seriously.

Brandes advises that if you have to ask yourself if you’re ok to drive, you’re not. He also recommended calling a friend, calling a cab, using an online transportation company, or do anything but get behind the wheel.

He added that if his deputies catch you driving while legally impaired, they will arrest you.
