THREE CALLS FRIDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.
The Brenham Fire Department responded to three calls on Friday.
Shortly after 8 a.m., the department was called out to the 700 block of Campbell Street for a transformer on fire. Firefighters arrived and found the top of the transformer smoking. They stood by until the City of Brenham Electric Department made location. Electric employees then released the fire department from the scene.
Around 10:30 a.m., units were dispatched for a gas odor in the 800 block of College Avenue. Firefighters and the City of Brenham Gas Department checked the area for a leak or smell. After investigation, firefighters cleared the scene.
Just past 12:15 p.m., BFD members received a report of a structure fire in the 800 block of Independence Street. They found a one-story house with nothing showing from the outside. The residents told firefighters that the stove made a pop sound, and smoke came from behind of it. Units checked the area around the stove and found no damage, determining that the element in the stove caused the smoke. They advised the residents of the issue before returning to service.
