PRIVATE WATER WELL SCREENING OFFERED FOR BRENHAM/BELLVILLE AREA RESIDENTS
Residents in the Brenham and Bellville area who have private water wells will have an opportunity next month to have their well water screened.
The Texas Well Owner Network, in conjunction with the Mill Creek Watershed Partnership, is hosting a “Well Educated” water well screening on Monday, February 5th. Water samples from household wells can be dropped off from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service office in Brenham at 1305 East Blue Bell Road, Suite 104, or in Bellville at 800 East Wendt Street.
Samples will be screened for contaminants, including total coliform bacteria, E. coli, nitrate-nitrogen and salinity. There will be a charge of $15 per sample.
A follow-up meeting to explain the results of the screenings will take place on Wednesday, February 7th at 8:30 a.m. at the Kenney Agricultural Society Hall, 444 Hall Road.
AgriLife Extension program specialist Joel Pigg said this program was established to help well owners become familiar with Texas groundwater resources, septic system maintenance, well maintenance and construction, and water quality and treatment.
Pigg said residents looking to have their well water screened should pick up a sample bag, bottle and instructions from their AgriLife Extension office. He also said it is very important for those submitting samples to be at the February 7th meeting to receive results, learn corrective measures for identified problems and improve their understanding of private well management.
The screening is presented by the Texas Water Resources Institute in partnership with the AgriLife Extension offices in Austin and Washington counties and the Mill Creek Watershed Partnership.
