BRENHAM PLANNING & ZONING TO MEET MONDAY

The Brenham Planning and Zoning Commission will meet Monday for the first time in 2024.

The first order of business for the commission will be to elect a chair, vice chair and secretary for this year.

Next, it will hold a public hearing and possibly act on a request from Clayton and Kelli Collier to change the zoning from R-1 single-family residential use to a planned development use district to build a 116-lot single-family home subdivision on 35.31 acres of land addressed as 1402 West Jefferson Street, located northwest of North Saeger Street.

The commission will meet Monday at 5:15 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.

  1. I’m going to guess that the named developers who want to have a “[…]116-lot single-family home subdivision on 35.31 acres of land […]” are going to get quick approval before any of the environmental impact fees just beginning to be looked at are put into place. That will mean that all of those houses and streets and yards and occupants will contribute to infrastructure needs but there will be no payment to offset the amount of city work that will need to be done down the road. I certainly hope that someone can foresee the amount of runoff water that might be coursing through the Little Sandy Creek at Holt Park and through Higgins Branch as it winds through the west part of town, Fireman’s Park and towards Blue Bell Road, as the subdivision mentioned and the one that is still going in just off of the loop will all drain into one or possibly both of those creeks. Good luck to anyone who has land or property downstream…and maybe to the yet-unbuilt walkway under North Park Strret for the food truck market.
