LOCAL FDs PARTICIPATE IN DRIVING TRAINING COURSE

Numerous local firefighters recently brushed up on their driving skills in a training session.

The Prairie Hill Volunteer Fire Department hosted a three-day emergency vehicle driving training course at the Washington County Expo.  The course is taught by the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service and instructs volunteer firefighters on topics such as Texas law, vehicle dynamics, safe braking, and handling fire trucks in adverse conditions and weather.

Prairie Hill Deputy Fire Chief Doug Zwiener said the goal of the training is to make first responders safer.  The training is required by Washington County as part of the funding volunteer fire departments receive.

The course had two days of classroom training and a driving test on a confidence course with fire apparatus.

Departments that participated included the Brenham Fire Department and the Prairie Hill, Chappell Hill, Meyersville, Salem, Berlin, Burton, Gay Hill, Rocky Creek, Carmine, Shelby, Round Top and Latium Volunteer Fire Departments.
