BLINN COLLEGE HISTORIAN TO SPEAK ON CHEROKEE NATION AT LIFETIME LEARNING LUNCHEON
A Blinn College historian will be Lifetime Learning Brenham’s first luncheon speaker for 2024.
Dr. W. Dale Weeks will be the featured guest for the luncheon on Friday, February 16th at 11:30 a.m. at the Cannery Kitchen in Brenham.
Dr. Weeks will discuss his research on the Cherokee Nation’s struggle for a lasting homeland and the right to self-rule. His book, “Cherokee Civil Warrior”, tells the story of Chief John Ross’ leadership before, during and after the Civil War when the tribe was forced to give up neutrality and align with the confederacy.
Dr. Weeks earned his PhD at Texas A&M University in 2020. He is currently an instructor of Texas and United States history at Blinn College’s Bryan Campus. He has also been a consultant on the PBS show “Finding Your Roots”.
Registration for the luncheon is $25 and is due by Wednesday, February 14th. To sign up, go to www.lifetimelearningbrenham.org.
