NEW MEXICO WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER HIGH SPEED CHASE

  

A New Mexico woman was arrested after leading Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies on an early morning car chase.

On Tuesday, just after 1am, Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Fowler conducted a welfare check on a vehicle parked at a convenience store in the 100 block of Highway 71 in Ellinger.

Fowler noticed the rear windows of the vehicle were covered as he made contact with the driver, 29-year-old Clorisa Franklin of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

While running her information, Deputy Fowler discovered that Franklin had multiple warrants for her arrest from different states.

As they were speaking, Franklin took off in her car out of the parking lot, and pulled on to Highway 71 with no lights on.

Fowler turned his emergency lights and siren on and followed after her.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the chase reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour and Franklin turned her car around several times during the pursuit.

Deputy Wesly Arrison successfully deployed a tire deflation device. 

Franklin’s vehicle came to a stop in the driveway of a classic car dealership in the 4600 block of Highway 71.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that Franklin had her three children in the back of the vehicle.  They are ages 2, 6, and 9.

Franklin was arrested on a warrant from New Mexico for Custodial Interference, a warrant out of Brazoria County, Texas for Assault Causes Bodily Injury Family Violence, and additional charges in Fayette County for Evading Arrest of Detention with a Vehicle, and Endangering a Child.

The children were released to Children’s Protective Services.
