CUBETTES OPEN DRIPPING SPRINGS TOURNAMENT WITH WIN
The Brenham Cubette Softball Team cranked up the offense and made short work of Buda Hays with a 17-2 victory at the Drippings Springs Tournament this (Thursday) morning.
Due to the tournament time limit and the score, the game only lasted three innings.
Brenham got on the board in the top of the first. Halle Scheel walked and then scored on an RBI double by Kaylyn Rodriguez to make it 1-0 Cubettes. Sarah Mabie followed with a single. Kaylie Rodriguez singled home her sister, Kaylyn, to increase the lead to 2-0. Kylie Baker then followed with another single to score Mabie and give Brenham a 3-0 lead after half an inning.
Hays got one of the runs back in the bottom of the first to cut the Cubette lead to 3-1.
Brenham would put the game away with an eleven-run second inning. McKenzie Tiemann, Avery Maurer, and Halle Scheel all singled to load the bases. Kaylyn Rodriguez then cleared the bases with a three-run double to make it 6-1 Cubettes. Sarah Mabie followed with an RBI double to score Rodriguez. Annie Beckendorf reached on a single. Kylie Baker would then single home Mabie to make it an 8-1 ballgame.
Nevaeh Holmes courtesy ran for Baker. Stella Landry followed with a single that scored Beckendorf. Tiemann then singled, which brought in Holmes to make it 10-1. Maurer reached on an error. Halle Scheel came up and would hit a two run triple to score Tiemann and Maurer. Kaylyn Rodriguez added to her hit total with an RBI double to bring in Scheel. Two batters later, Beckendorf slugged an RBI double of her own to score Rodriguez, which made it 14-1 Cubettes.
Brenham would tack on three more runs in the top of the 3rd inning. Holmes drew a lead-off walk, and Jaycee Hegar singled. Maurer singled to load the bases. Scheel drew a bases loaded walk to bring in Holmes. Kaylyn Rodriguez would single home Hegar, and Maurer would score on a wild pitch to increase the Cubette lead to 17-1.
Hays would get one more run in the bottom of the third before the game was called.
In addition to the 17 runs, Brenham finished with 21 hits.
