WASHINGTON CO. APPRAISAL DISTRICT BOARD TO DISCUSS COMPTROLLER’S PROPERTY VALUE STUDY RESULTS

The Washington County Appraisal District Board of Directors will meet Tuesday to discuss the Comptroller’s preliminary findings for the 2023 Property Value Study.

The Comptroller’s Property Tax Assistance Division conducts a study of appraisal district value every two years, measuring the accuracy and uniformity of the district’s values.

Appraisal districts are required to appraise property uniformly and as close to market value as possible.  In order for values to be considered “valid”, they must come within 95 to 105 percent of the Comptroller’s opinion of value.

The 2022 Property Value Study determined that the appraised values for Brenham ISD were too low, prompting another study for 2023’s values.  The Washington County Appraisal District appealed the state’s findings but was unsuccessful.

The board will also hold a workshop for the 2024-25 budget.  The proposed budget is $1.68 million, $55,755 more than the current adopted budget.  The increase comes from $38,000 in added personnel costs, $16,255 in extra professional and contracted services, and $1,500 in other additional operating costs.

A second budget workshop will take place on March 26th, with a budget hearing and potential adoption scheduled for April 23rd

Other business will include standard monthly reports.

The board will meet Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the appraisal district office, 1301 Niebuhr Street in Brenham.
