FIVE CALLS TUESDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.

The Brenham Fire Department responded to five calls on Tuesday.

Around 10:15 a.m., the department was dispatched to a home in the 700 block of South Day Street for a fire alarm sounding.  Units arrived to find nothing showing from the exterior of the building.  Upon speaking with the homeowner, they were advised that the alarm was set off by steam.  The alarm was reset, and firefighters returned to service.

Shortly after 2:45 p.m., BFD members responded to a home in the 1300 block of Autumn Rain Drive for a report of a structure fire.  When they made location, they found nothing showing from the outside of the building, but they did discover a barbecue pit right beside the house causing the smoke.  Firefighters pulled the pit away from the home and returned to the station.  No damage was done to the house.

Just before 3:45 p.m., units were called to a transportation incident in the 500 block of South Austin Street.  There, they found a three-vehicle accident with undisclosed injuries.  The department assisted EMS with patient care and used dry absorbent on the fluid spill.

At 4:30 p.m., the department was sent out to Fortune Tea, 2670 Highway 36 South, for a report of a child locked inside a freezer.  Firefighters made location and found a three-year-old inside the freezer.  They used hand tools to pry the freezer door open.  EMS checked the child and found no injuries.

Shortly after 5:15 p.m., units were dispatched for a fire investigation at Brenham Trails, 2502 South Market Street.  They found a small fire that was extinguished by a resident in the flower bed.  Firefighters spoke with the resident to make sure the fire was out before clearing the scene.
