CUBS GET A WIN & A LOSS IN TOURNAMENT PLAY

The Brenham Cub Baseball Team opened Clear Creek ISD Tournament play this (Friday) afternoon with a 12-6 loss to Clear Springs, but then bounced back with a 5-0 shutout over La Porte.

Things started on a good note with Barrett Kohring hitting a leadoff home run to make it 1-0 Cubs.

The Chargers came back and took a 2-1 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning.

Brenham tied it 2-2 in the top of the third. Tanner Reese singled, and then Caleb Maurer was brought in to run for him. Drake Bentke walked. After two wild pitches, Maurer came in to score.

Clear Springs added two runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 4-2 lead on the Cubs, and then added two more runs in in the bottom of the 4th to extend the lead to 6-2.

Brenham tied it at 6-6 with four runs in the top of the fifth. Cannon Credeur drew a bases loaded walk. Caleb Maurer, Drake Bentke, and Credeur would all score in the inning on wild pitches.

The Chargers then exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth to win it.

The Cubs jumped on LaPorte early with a run in the first inning. Drake Bentke reached on an error, and came around to score on an RBI single by Luke Hardy to make it 1-0 Brenham.

In the second inning, Landry Mendoza reached on a fielder's choice, and Owen Finke walked. Brady Rau followed with a bunt single that scored Mendoza from third. Barrett Kohring followed with a single that scored Finke to increase the lead to 3-0. Rau also came home when a balk was called on LaPorte's pitcher, and the Cubs had a 4-0 lead.

Brenham added one more run in the third. Mendoza doubled, and then scored on an RBI single by Finke to make it 5-0 Cubs.

That was all Luke Hardy needed as he went the distance on a one-hitter.
