Four members of the Brenham FFA participated in the Calf Scramble this past Tuesday. There were over 30 scramblers running for the chance to catch one of 15 calves to begin a year-long calf scramble project.

Dawson Moran, Michael Kettler, Daniel Guerrero and Kate Martin all achieved this goal.

Each student won a calf scramble certificate worth $2,250 donated by generous sponsors to purchase a steer or heifer project to raise and bring back to the event next year to exhibit.

These members were supported by their parents and Brenham High School Ag Teacher Joseph Dickschat.

In addition, another Brenham FFA member received a calf scramble certificate by winning a high individual award in the Houston Dairy Judging Contest.

Samantha Mahlmann was 36th high point individual of 321 participants which yielded her a spot in winning a certificate to purchase a scramble calf as well and begin the year long process.

Mahlmann was also part of a team with Kaylee Brown and Emma Scheel who placed 28th Team.

Meanwhile, Brenham FFA Team #1 consisting of Lillie Thibodeaux, Ella Scheel and Chasidy Nowicki earned 25th place team honors at the Houston Dairy Judging Contest.  These team members are also coached by Mr. Dickschat.

  1. One of the most disgusting displays of animal exploitation for entertainment and money is watching calves in complete fear running away from a group of humans as the pull on their tails and necks. SHAMEFUL!
