SAN JAC SWEEPS BUC BASEBALL

Story by Joe Alberico, Blinn College Sports Information

The Blinn College baseball team endured a twin bill sweep at the hands of Region XIV rival San Jacinto College-North on Saturday in Houston, Texas.

The Ravens earned a 4-0 victory in a seven-inning game one before taking the nine-inning finale 4-2.

“You have to tip your cap to San Jacinto,” Blinn head coach Dusty Hart said. “They were better than us, they wanted it more than us, and they were tougher than us. They made plays and pitches when we didn't. We had our opportunities but didn't step up and get it done.”

The Bucs are now 11-11 on the year and 4-3 in region play.

In game one Saturday, San Jacinto held Blinn to a pair of singles as Ravens pitcher Ty Roman earned a complete-game shutout.

Bucs sophomore pitcher Brendan Sweeney also went the distance with six innings of four-run ball. He gave up seven hits, walked one Raven, and fanned five.

Game two was an equally frustrating outing for the Blinn offense as the Bucs again totaled just two hits.

Sophomore Matt Whitting had an RBI single to put Blinn ahead 1-0 in the second inning, and sophomore Tanner Reaves smacked an RBI double to pull the Bucs within 3-2 in the seventh.

San Jacinto added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth and held on in the ninth for the win.

Freshman pitcher Luke Davenport tossed 7 2/3 innings for Blinn in which he allowed four earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

Up next for Blinn is a non-region home tilt against Navarro College scheduled for 2 p.m. today (Monday) at Leroy Dreyer Field in Brenham, Texas.
