LAKE CREEK SQUEAKS BY CUBETTES 5-4 IN NINE INNINGS

The Brenham Cubettes went head-to-head with the defending State Champion Lake Creek Lady Lions, and came within an eyelash of pulling off the victory this (Tuesday) afternoon at Alumni Field.

Lake Creek jumped out to the early 4-0 lead with two runs in the third inning, and another two runs in the fourth inning.

Brenham battled back in the fifth. Kinley Antkowiak drew a lead-off walk. Stella Landry sacrificed her second. Halle Scheel was hit by a pitch. Kaylyn Rodriguez followed by ripping a two-run double to cut the lead in half, 4-2. Sarah Mabie, then, delivered the big blow with a two-run homer that tied it 4-4.

A pitcher's duel ensued with Heidi Busker of Brenham and Sara Wiggins of Lake Creek matching each other zero for zero until the ninth inning.

Lake Creek managed one run in the ninth to take a 5-4 lead. Brenham had a couple of runners on in the bottom of the ninth, but ultimately couldn't get them home.

Brenham drops to 1-3 in district. The Cubettes are taking the rest of Spring Break off. They will travel to Montgomery next Tuesday night.
