On a team of 14 freshmen, Chelsy Singleton knew it would be difficult to stand out.

So naturally, the first-year guard made herself hard to miss.

Singleton, a freshman from Cypress, Texas, has been named to the Region XIV all-region/all-conference first team in recognition of her breakout campaign for the Blinn College women's basketball team.

"I'm really grateful for the recognition," Singleton said. "There are 14 talented freshmen on this team, so it came down to staying locked in on myself and on my game."

With the Buccaneers sitting at 24-9 overall and preparing to head to their third consecutive NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship tournament, Singleton leads the team's offense with 13.7 points per game to go with 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists. She has also averaged 2.5 defensive rebounds and 1.7 steals per contest for a stellar Blinn defense which has allowed just 55 points per game this season.

"At the end of the day, I love to score the basketball and see the ball go in the basket, and that's as much me creating shots for myself as it is my teammates creating opportunities for me," Singleton said. "It has also been a lot of fun being a part of this defense and doing all of the things we've done this season to keep ourselves in ballgames on the other side of the court."

Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said in his 25 seasons as a head coach, including 22 with the Bucs, Singleton stands out as one of the best shot creators he's had on his roster. He added that Singleton's presence on the court and her ability to score underneath the basket, from mid-range, and at the 3-point line has carried the Bucs during stretches of offensive inconsistency.

"Chelsy is really competitive, and she knows she needs to score to help us win," said Jenkins. "Come game time, she does a great job of wanting to make plays for us. This team hasn't always scored a lot throughout the season, and Chelsy has kept us in a lot of games and has helped us win a lot of games because of her offensive skill."
