LEE CO. SHERIFF’S OFFICE TO HOST FIRST JUNIOR DEPUTY ACADEMY

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is now taking applications for its first-ever Junior Deputy Academy.

The program will be held on Saturday, May 11th from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, 2122 FM 448 in Giddings.

The academy will provide third, fourth and fifth grade students who live in Lee County the opportunity to gain a greater understanding of law enforcement from the deputies who work in their community.  The academy will give a basic understanding of what deputies do through classroom presentations and hands-on activities.

Children will learn about basic first-aid, cyber safety, stranger danger, bully prevention, physical fitness, patrol functions and mock tactical operations.

The academy will conclude with a special graduation ceremony.  Parents can attend to see their junior deputies recite their oath and be sworn in by Lee County Sheriff Garrett Durrenberger.

A limited number of seats are available for the academy.  Applications will be accepted through April 11th.  The program includes a $30 fee to cover the cost of shirts for participants.

Applications can be picked up at the sheriff’s office or downloaded from their website, www.leecountysherifftx.org.  They can be returned to the sheriff’s office in person or by mail, and can also be emailed to sheriff@co.lee.tx.us
