The Blinn College softball team was on the short end of a pair of 5-3 decisions at the hands of Region XIV South foe Alvin Community College on Friday at the Blinn College Softball field at Hohlt Park in Brenham, Texas.

The Buccaneers dropped to 20-14-1 overall and 5-4 in region play.

In Friday's opener, Blinn was unable to complete a late-game rally and the Dolphins held on for the victory.

Sophomore Alyssa Boozy opened the scoring with an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning, but that was all the Bucs would muster until the fifth. Alvin scored two runs in the top of the third and solo tallies in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-1 lead.

In the home half of the fifth, Haley Hughes doubled in freshman Darian DeLeon and sophomore Alayna Calvillo made it a 4-3 game when she doubled in Hughes.

Alvin tacked on a run in the seventh to close out the scoring.

Blinn finished with eight hits, with Hughes and sophomore Erynne Castillo collecting two a piece.

Sophomore pitcher Peyton Welker took the loss following 4 1/3 innings of work. She allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts and a walk.

Game two saw the Dolphins stage a fifth-inning rally to complete the sweep.

Blinn scored two runs in the second frame on a two-run homer from Ripley Welker and made it 3-2 in the third on an RBI fielder's choice from Boozy.

Alvin pieced together three runs in the fifth to pull ahead for good.

The Bucs finished with five hits.

Freshman Paige Bunting started for Blinn and lasted 4 2/3 innings. She surrendered five earned runs on six hits, walked four, and fanned two. Sophomore Camdyn Shugart tossed 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Blinn gets back to work with a South doubleheader against San Jacinto College-South beginning 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, in Brenham.
