MUMFORD SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER OVER BURTON

The Mumford Mustangs swept a doubleheader over the Burton Panthers last (Tuesday) night. Due to the Regional Track Meet on Friday and Saturday, the two teams decided to play a doubleheader.

Mumford took the first game 6-4.

Burton scored first in the bottom of the second. Colby Beck singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryder Biggs to make it 1-0 Panthers.

Burton added two more runs in the bottom of the third. Tyler Witt reached on an error. Logun Tosta bunted him to second. Rueben Rodriguez was hit by a pitch, and Beck walked to load the bases. Bryson Biggs followed with a two-run single to score Witt and Rodriguez, which increased the Burton lead to 3-0.

Mumford scored one run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth inning to tie the game 3-3.

Bryson Biggs came on in relief of starting pitcher Witt, and Mumford touched him up for three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 6-3 lead.

Burton managed to only get one run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Beck that scored Witt to make it 6-4 Mumford.

Mumford would then also take the nightcap of the doubleheader with a 4-3 victory at Panther Field. The Mustangs struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first to take the early 2-0 lead.

In the top of the second, Burton loaded the bases on three straight walks to Braydon Martin, Ryder Biggs, and Brady Griffin. Weston Els came in to run for Martin, and scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 2-1.

Mumford scored again in the second to increase their advantage to 3-1.

Neither team would get on the board again until the seventh inning. Burton came up with a pair of runs to tie it 3-3.

Bryson Biggs led it off with a walk, followed by back-to singles to Martin and Ryder Biggs to load the bases.

Griffin hit a sacrifice fly, and to bring home Bryson Biggs.

Martin would later score on a steal of home to tie it 3-3 going into the bottom of the seventh.

The Mustangs walked it off with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the seventh to get the sweep with a 4-3 win.

Next Week:

The Panthers will host Iola in the final two games. The first game has them going to Iola on Tuesday, and then Iola comes to Burton on Friday. Both start at 6:30pm.
