BRENHAM FIRE DEPT. PUTS OUT TRASH COMPACTOR FIRE MONDAY

A trash compactor fire was one of three calls for the Brenham Fire Department on Monday.

Firefighters responded shortly before 1:30 p.m. to The Home Depot, 2801 Wood Ridge Boulevard, for a report of a structure fire.  They arrived to find nothing showing from the exterior of the building, but they later discovered a trash compactor on fire attached to the building in the back.  Units used tank water to extinguish the fire and used a fan to remove the smoke from inside the building.  After the building was ventilated, all units returned to service.

Also on Monday, the department was called out just shy of 10:15 a.m. to the 1800 block of South Day Street for an 18-wheeler that hit a power line.  BFD members arrived to find a power line down across the road and blocked traffic until the City of Brenham Electric Department was able to fix the line.

At 5:15 p.m., firefighters received a report of a hazmat spill at a gas station in the 300 block of Highway 290 West.  They found roughly a gallon of gas on the ground and used dry absorbent on the spill.
