IOLA DEFEATS BURTON PANTHERS 7-6

The Iola Bulldogs spoiled the Seniors Night game for the Burton Panthers on Friday evening at Panther Field.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Burton got a run back in the bottom of the inning. Rueben Rodriguez reached on a dropped third strike by the catcher, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 2-1.

Iola added an addition run in the top of the second to take a 3-1 lead over the Panthers.

Burton came back to tie it with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Rodriguez reached on an error, stole second, and then advanced to third on an error. Colby Beck walked, and later came round to score on a sacrifice fly by Braydon Martin to make it 3-3.

The Bulldogs got a run in the fifth inning to retake the lead 4-3. They would then add two more scores in the sixth to increase the Iola lead to 6-3.

Burton cut into the lead again with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Brady Griffin scored on an RBI double by Tyler Witt that made it 6-4.

Iola added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to push their lead over the Panthers to 7-4.

In the bottom of the inning, Colby Beck hit a solo homer to left field, which made it 7-5. Later in the frame, Bryson Biggs scored on an error to make it a one run game 7-6. However, Burton couldn't get it any closer.
