TWO CRASHES AMONG FIVE WEEKEND CALLS FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.

The Brenham Fire Department responded to two crash calls on Saturday and five calls over the weekend in total.

At 11 a.m. Saturday, the department was dispatched for a crash in the 500 block of North Park Street.  Firefighters arrived to find a two-vehicle accident blocking the roadway.  They checked for injuries and provided traffic control until the vehicles were removed from the roadway.

Minutes later, units received a report of another crash in the 4100 block of Highway 36 North.  When they made it to the scene, they discovered a two-vehicle accident blocking the roadway.  The department checked for injuries, cleaned fluids off the roadway and directed traffic around the incident until both vehicles were removed.

At 2:30 p.m., BFD members responded to Dairy Queen, 2254 Highway 290 West, for a vehicle leaking gas in the parking lot.  They arrived on scene and pushed the vehicle into a safe location and assessed the cause before cleaning the fuel from the parking lot.  They also assisted with locating additional help to get the vehicle fixed and the driver back on the road as quickly as possible.

At 5:30 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire that started on the front porch of a home in the 700 block of Parkview Street.  The fire had already been extinguished by the residents prior to the department’s arrival.  Units checked for extension into the attic but was unable to detect any concern.  They educated the residents on fire safety in their home and made sure no one was injured.

At 3:30 a.m. Sunday, units were called out to Del Sol Food Company, 3015 South Blue Bell Road, for a fire alarm.  Nothing was showing from the exterior when they made it to the scene, but after searching the building, they discovered water coming from the pump room.  The department made sure there was no fire and waited until a business representative arrived on location before returning to service.
