BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO SWEAR IN NEW MEMBERS, INTERVIEW SUPT. CANDIDATES

Two new members will be sworn in to the Burton School Board on Monday, the first of two meetings in as many days.

Prior to the start of Monday's regular meeting at 6 p.m. in the Burton High School auditorium, trustees will hold a public forum and discussion at 5:30 p.m. on the status of the school bond project.

Once the regular meeting begins, the board will canvass the results of the May 4th election, and new trustees Ande "Arch" Bostain and Mike Clyde will receive the oath of office. The board will then name its new officers.

Following that, board members will consider amending local policy regarding locally provided leave and adding a policy pertaining to the offering of professional non-certified contracts to positions of importance who do not qualify for regular Chapter 21 contracts.

Trustees will then go into executive session to consult with an attorney and to discuss personnel, safety and security, and real property.

The board will meet again on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Burton ISD Central Office, where it will hold interviews in executive session for candidates who have applied to the district's superintendent position.

Former superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy retired in March. The board is working with Powell Law Group to conduct the search for a new superintendent.

According to the timeline provided by the district for the superintendent hiring process, May 13-17 is designated for the second round of interviews, with May 17th slated as the day to name a lone finalist. The preferred start date for the selected candidate is listed as June 10th.
