BUCCANEERS MAKE QUICK WORK OF FLORENCE-DARLINGTON TECH 17-7

It didn't take the Blinn Buccaneer Baseball Team long to take care of business last (Tuesday) night. The Bucs crushed Florence-Darlington Tech 17-7 in five innings at the NJCAA World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Blinn got things going in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run homer by Cade Climie. The Bucs would later increase their lead with a two-run single by Tony Vernars, and another two-run single by Tanner Reaves to give Blinn the early 6-0 lead.

The Stingers responded with a pair of runs in the top of the second to cut the Buccaneer lead to 6-2.

In the bottom of the second, for Blinn, Caden Ferraro and Connor McGinnis hit back-to-back home runs to increase the lead to 8-2.

The Stingers biggest inning came in the top of the third where they took advantage of a pair of Buccaneer fielding errors to put five runs on the board, and get it down to a one-run game 8-7.

After that, it was all Blinn.

In the third inning, Ferraro hit a two-run homer, his second long ball of the day to give the Bucs a 10-7 lead.

Then, in the fourth inning, Marshall Lipsey scored on a wild pitch, Reaves brought in another run with a sacrifice fly, and Climie had an RBI single to extend their advantage to 13-7.

Blinn finished things off with four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brandon Bishop had an RBI single, Coy DeFury brought home a run on an RBI groundout, and then Ethan Gonzalez finished it off with a two-run homer to enforce the ten run-mercy rule, 17-7.

Brendan Sweeney went all five innings for the Bucs to get the win. He allowed six hits, seven runs, only three were earned, three walks, and three strikeouts.

The win improves Blinn to 44-16 on the season. Next up, the Bucs will face Georgia Highlands in a third round game tonight (Wednesday) at 7pm.
