TWO HALLETTSVILLE MEN ARRESTED ON MULTIPLE CHARGES
Two male suspects were arrested on Monday in Fayette County on multiple charges.
According to Sheriff Keith Korenek, a 9-1-1 call came in reporting property damage on Gebert Road near Schulz Road. Someone backed an unknown vehicle into a tree.
While on his way to the scene, Deputy Terry Guentert was advised of a second call reporting a suspicious vehicle on Salem Freyburg Road.
Guentart found the suspicious vehicle, a Ford Fusion, that had been abandoned, and he observed a male subject wearing dark clothing, running in the pasture, and a citizen told him there was another male hiding in the tall grass.
Deputy Guentart made contact with the male subject hiding in the grass and detained him after a conversation.
Dispatch received a second report from another 9-1-1 caller that someone stole a white van, which belonged to Kenmore Services in Schulenburg.
Drug Interdiction Officer David Smith found the vehicle abandoned on Salem Freyburg Road. The van matched the description of the vehicle that caused the property damage to the earlier call on Gebert Road.
Deputies ended up going back to the same residence on Gebert Road where the property damage occurred after the owner discovered that a burglary had occurred and multiple guns were taken.
Several agencies including the DPS, Schulenburg Police, Flatonia Police, Fayette County EMS, and Sheriff’s Deputies responded.
A reverse 9-1-1 call was sent out to residents in a four-mile area telling them what to look out for, and a drone was used in the search.
Investigator Smith located one of the suspects riding a bicycle that was later reported stolen.
The suspect jumped off the bicycle and fled on foot into a pasture. Sgt. Mark Zimmerman, Sgt. Randy Thumann, and K-9 officer Kolt joined in the pursuit, and helped to take the subject into custody.
39-year-old Roberto Luna and 31-year-old Cody Powell, both of Hallettsville, were arrested, and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
Luna was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.
Powell was charged with Evading Arrest and Possession of Stolen Property.
Additional charges are pending on both subjects.
All of the weapons that were reported stolen were recovered in a field where the suspects were allegedly hiding.
