SPECIAL RESPONSE TEAM MAKES MAJOR DRUG ARREST IN COLUMBUS

An accused drug dealer was taken off the streets after a raid by the Austin County Regional Special Response Team.

The operation was the result of an ongoing narcotics investigation by the West Side Narcotics Task Force. 

The SRT executed arrest and search warrants on Monday at 11:45pm in Columbus.

39-year-old Eric Belmonte was arrested on a felony warrant for Manufacture and/or Delivery of a Controlled Substance.

He attempted to flee, but was caught, and then taken into custody by SRT members without further incident.

During a search of the defendant’s residence in the 400 Block of Jones Street in Columbus, officers seized crack cocaine, powder cocaine, methamphetamine, MDMA (ecstasy), marijuana, fentanyl, and U.S. currency.

He was booked into the Colorado County Jail in Columbus.

The Austin County District Attorney’s Office Assisted with the investigation, while the Columbus Police Department and the Colorado County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the operation.
