FIVE CALLS MONDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.

The Brenham Fire Department was called out five times on Monday.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m., the department was dispatched to a home in the 600 block of Kerr Street for a report of an alarm sounding.  Units found nothing showing from the exterior of the building, but they did find a bad smoke detector inside the home.  They replaced the smoke detector and returned to service.

Approaching 10:30 a.m., firefighters responded to a hazmat spill in the 1000 block of West Main Street.  They arrived to find a gallon of liquid on the roadway and used water to dilute the spill.

Just after 10:45 a.m., BFD members received a report of a fire alarm at Mill Creek Residence Hall, 1192 Old Mill Creek Road.  Upon initially finding nothing on the outside of the building, they found an employee who advised the smoke detector on the fifth floor was full of water, and that the maintenance department would repair the detector.

At approximately 2 p.m., the department was called to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 8125 Mt. Pleasant Lane, for a structure fire.  The Meyersville, Washington and Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Departments also responded.  They discovered the main building was fully involved and used a handline to protect the building located about 15 feet away from it, before moving to the main structure.  After the fire was under control, Brenham units returned to the station, while all other departments remained on scene.

Just past 3:30 p.m., firefighters went out to a home in the 800 block of South Chappell Hill Street for an alarm sounding.  They found nothing on the outside, but a homeowner directed them to a smoke detector that had water dripping from it.  The department advised the homeowner to replace the detector before clearing the scene.
