Washington County Commissioners are calling for healing and an end to the discord that culminated with the attempted assassination on Saturday of former President Donald Trump.

Before the start of their meeting this (Tuesday) morning, County Judge John Durrenberger and Commissioner Kirk Hanath offered their comments on Saturday’s events.

Durrenberger said he was “shaken” upon learning of the situation and is grateful that Trump survived the attack.  He asked for prayers for all those directly impacted and that the violence come to an end.

Durrenberger then requested a moment of silence.  After a brief pause, Hanath then spoke, saying this division can leak down into local politics.  He said many times, people can get caught up with only what matters to them and lose sight of the big picture.

Hanath asked the public to remember that these officials are still human, and that a little civility can go a long way.

The full comments from Durrenberger and Hanath can be heard below.
