FIVE CALLS FRIDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.

The Brenham Fire Department responded to five calls on Friday.

Shortly after 11:45 a.m., the department was dispatched to Highway 290 West and Highway 36 North for a report of a trailer brake on fire.  Units found the brakes smoking, but no fire.  They used tank water to cool down the area before returning to service.

Around 2:15 p.m., firefighters received a report of a transportation incident in the 2600 block of Highway 36 South.  There, they discovered a two-vehicle accident with both vehicles in a parking lot and no fluids leaking, so they cleared the call.

At 6:45 p.m., BFD members were called to the 4100 block of Highway 36 South for a report of smoke in the area.  They arrived to find a controlled burn, and after checking the area found that water was around the burn area, so they returned to the station.

Just before 8:30 p.m., the department went out to First Baptist Church, 2715 South Market Street, for a fire hydrant that had been hit, shooting water into the air.  Units arrived and learned an irrigation pipe was hit, causing water to spray about 30 feet into the air.  They stayed on location until the City of Brenham Water Department made location to turn the water off.

Approaching 9 p.m., firefighters responded to North Chappell Hill Street and Sycamore Street for a transportation incident.  They found a two-vehicle accident and provided first aid to the patients until EMS arrived.  Units cleaned the roadway up and returned to service once the roadway was clear.
