PUBLIC MEETING FOR HIGHWAY 105 WIDENING IN GRIMES CO. SET FOR SEPT. 19

TxDOT will hold a public meeting next month to hear comments on its plans to widen a 6-mile stretch of Highway 105 in Grimes County, from Highway 6 to Highway 249.

The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 19th from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Grimes County Fairgrounds, 5220 FM 3455 in Navasota.  Visitors will be able to review project displays and ask questions of TxDOT staff and consultants in an open-house format.

The proposed project is intended to address traffic congestion that has increased along Highway 105 since the opening of Highway 249.  It is also meant to improve regional mobility and safety.

The project would widen the existing two-lane highway to a four-lane divided highway with two lanes in each direction, separated by a grass median.  Improvements would include construction of a direct connect interchange at the intersection of Highway 105 and Highway 6.  In addition, Highway 105’s intersection with FM 362 and County Road 415 would be reconfigured to a grade-separated overpass.

Construction is currently estimated to begin in 2030.

TxDOT says the project requires additional right-of-way and could potentially include displacements.  Relocation assistance for displaced people or businesses is available through TxDOT’s Relocation Assistance Program.

The project may also involve construction in a floodplain and wetlands.  Any environmental documentation or studies, maps and drawings showing the project location and design, tentative construction schedules, and other information can be seen at the public meeting or by appointment Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the TxDOT Bryan District Office, located at 2591 North Earl Rudder Freeway in Bryan.

Written comments from the public regarding the project must be submitted to TxDOT by Friday, October 4th.  Comments can be sent by mail to the TxDOT Bryan District Office or emailed to BRY-PublicComment@txdot.gov

  1. I would like to see some more passing lanes or make the ones on HWY 105 longer between Brenham and Navasota, because if you get behind some Motor home or big truck going 50 or so you are stuck in the parade. I think this makes for the dangerous passing situations. I see these passing lanes in other counties without near the traffic HWY 105 has now days. Till that happens enjoy the country side view next time your stuck in the parade.
