‘CELEBRATE OUR SENIORS’ PROGRAM MARKS 21 YEARS

  

The nonprofit Thomye Delle “Celebrate Our Seniors” program recently kicked off its 21^st year of honoring senior citizens.

The program spearheads a recognition of senior citizens who have given back to their community without the expectation of anything in return.

On August 9^th, program co-founder and organizer Veronica Ferguson Maxie and a group of volunteers delivered bundles of personal care packages to senior citizens in area nursing homes, including High Hope Care Center, Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Argent Court Assisted Living Center.

Then on August 10^th, over 10 teams of volunteers began delivering more than 160 individual care packages to senior citizens in private homes in Brenham, Burton, Chappell Hill, Washington and places in between.  The personal care packages came with essential items like socks, hand lotion, hand sanitizer, toothpaste, toothbrushes, blankets, puzzles, coloring books and gift cards.  The care packages also included handmade greeting cards from local youth.

Program co-founder Tre Maxie said the continued success of the program is “a testament to the untiring support of the community.”

During worship services at Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church, organizers thanked the church’s youth and congregation for their support, as well as all of the area churches, businesses, organizations and volunteers who make the program possible.  The program also thanks the leaders of Brenham and Washington County for recognizing the importance of “Celebrate Our Seniors” with proclamations declaring August 10^th as “Celebrate Our Seniors Day.”
