An Edinburg, Texas man was arrested after leading local law enforcement on a pursuit.

At approximately 5:45pm on Thursday, several Deputies with the Austin County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Hwy 60 just south of Wallis near the Wharton County line, in an attempt to locate a vehicle that had been involved in a pursuit.

Deputies were notified that a blue Chevrolet Camaro had fled from a Texas DPS State Trooper in Fort Bend County.

The Wharton County Pct 2 Constables Office advised that they had spotted the vehicle traveling into Austin County, but they had lost sight of it.

A short time after being given a description of the suspect vehicle, an Austin County Sheriff’s Deputy observed the vehicle traveling on Hwy 36 near Tomlinson Road.

When the Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled and refused to stop for law enforcement.  The pursuit ended with the suspect exiting his vehicle and fleeing on foot in the 1300 Block of Klopsteck Road.

On scene units set up a perimeter, while K9 and drone units were called to the area to assist with the search for the suspect.

Bellville PD K9 “Maggie” arrived on scene and was deployed in an attempt to track and locate the suspect.  Austin County Sheriff Jack Brandes responded in his aircraft to conduct a search of the area.

The suspect was spotted from the air and ground running into a wooded area in the 4900 blk of Hwy 36 South.

Several members of the Austin County Regional Special Response Team including K9 “Knox” entered the wooded area. The SRT and K9 “Knox” located and arrested the suspect without incident.

The suspect was later identified as 27-year-old Javier Garcia.  Garcia was turned over to DPS, who transported and booked him into the Ft. Bend County Jail.

The Austin County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all the agencies who assisted in the operation, which include the Texas DPS, Bellville Police Department, San Felipe Police Department, Wallis Police Department, and the Wharton County Constables Office Pct 2.
