WASHINGTON CO. APPRAISAL DISTRICT BOARD TO VOTE ON 2025-26 REAPPRAISAL PLAN

The Washington County Appraisal District Board of Directors will take a vote on Tuesday to adopt the 2025-26 reappraisal plan.

Potential adoption will follow a public hearing on the plan, which the board must develop biennially for the periodic reappraisal of all property in the appraisal district’s boundaries.

The plan sets out certain activities that are required when performing reappraisals, including defining market areas, identifying and updating property characteristics affecting value in those market areas, applying conclusions from an appraisal model to individual properties, and reviewing appraisal results to determine value.

Other business on Tuesday will include approving the annual contract between the appraisal district and Brenham ISD.  This allows the school district to perform all duties of the appraisal district and designates the person employed by the school district as the tax assessor-collector to serve as chief appraiser of the appraisal district.  The cost is equal to the appraisal district budget for the 2024-25 tax year.

In addition, the board will consider possibly forgiving penalty and interest on delinquent allocation payments, also known as monthly shares, where there is good cause.  There will then be possible action on how to reallocate approximately $50,300 in surplus funds left over from the purchase of appraisal and collections software.

The board will meet Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the appraisal district office, 1301 Niebuhr Street in Brenham.
