BURTON OPENS SEASON WITH 32-21 LOSS TO HOLLAND
The Burton Panther Football Team opened up their season with a 32-21 loss to the Holland Hornets at Cub Stadium in Brenham on Friday night.
Things started off on a good note for the Panthers as Kayden Patterson found Maleek Bibby on a six-yard touchdown pass. D'Mitry Schulte added the extra point to give Burton an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
Holland scored first in the second quarter, but failed on a two-point conversion attempt, so the Panthers still lead 7-6.
Patterson would then connect with Eli Simank on a 45 yard touchdown pass, and another Schulte PAT, would make it 14-6 Burton.
Holland scored again before the half and made the two-point conversion to tie it 14-14 as the teams went into the locker room.
The Panthers opened the second half with Patterson scoring on a seven-yard touchdown run, and a Schulte kick to take a 21-14 lead.
Holland would then score three straight touchdowns to take a 32-21 lead.
Neither team found the end zone in the fourth quarter as the Hornets held on for the win.
One of the key stats was Holland outrushing Burton 231 yards to 84. Burton also had four turnovers (two fumbles and 2 INTs) to just one for the Hornets.
