36TH ANNUAL WENDISH FEST SEPT. 22 IN SERBIN

The Texas Wendish Heritage Society will host the 36th Annual Wendish Fest next weekend.

The free festival, set for Sunday, September 22nd, celebrates Wendish history and heritage through folklife exhibits, cultural activities, food, drinks and live music.  It will be held at the Texas Wendish Heritage Museum and St. Paul Lutheran Church picnic grounds on County Road 212, roughly six miles southwest of Giddings.

Some of the festivities will include tours of the museum, a coffee cake bake-off and auction, children’s stick horse races and coloring contests, greased pole climbing, train rides and washer pitching.  There will also be demonstrations of Wendish noodle making, sausage stuffing, wine making and cross-cut sawing.

Live music will be performed by the Jodie Mikula Orchestra.

Money raised from the event go to the Texas Wendish Heritage Society’s scholarship program, supporting students of Wendish descent.
