SALES TAX REBATES UP FOR WASHINGTON CO. & BRENHAM, DOWN FOR BURTON
Washington County and the City of Brenham had a positive month of sales and tax distributions for September, while the City of Burton saw a decline.
Washington County’s rebate this month was $403,269, up 13.54 percent from the $355,165 it brought in for September 2023. So far in 2024, the county has received $3,485,298, a 2.5 percent dip from the $3,574,792 collected through this time a year ago.
Brenham’s September rebate came out to $911,436, an increase of 18.24 percent from last September, when the city received $770,784. The city’s total rebates through the year add up to $7,590,652, up 6.12 percent from this point last year, when it had taken in $7,152,765.
Burton’s rebate this month was down 11.45 percent from last September, totaling $9,518 in comparison to $10,750. For the year thus far, the city has received $123,407, up 52.46 percent from the $80,941 tallied through September 2023.
Comptroller Glenn Hegar reported that the state paid out $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations in September, up 6.3 percent from last September and up 2.3 percent for the year to date.
