SIX CALLS TUESDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.

The Brenham Fire Department was called out six times on Tuesday.

Shortly before 5:45 p.m., the department was dispatched to a home in the 1000 block of Old Vine Road for a report of a gas smell inside the garage.  Firefighters and the City of Brenham Gas Department made location to find no readings on the gas detector, but after investigating, they discovered a bad car battery in the family vehicle.

Just before 6:45 p.m., units went out to Prairie Lea Hall, 911 West Fifth Street on the Blinn College campus, for an alarm sounding.  They found nothing showing from the exterior of the building, and there were no signs of smoke or fire inside, so they reset the alarm and returned to service.

Around 7:45 p.m., BFD personnel responded to East Tom Green Street and South Chappell Hill Street for a transportation incident.  They arrived on location to find a two-vehicle accident with no fluids leaking and stood by until both vehicles were moved off the scene.

Shortly past 9:15 p.m., an alarm call came in at Lowe’s, 2750 Highway 36 South.  Nothing was showing from the outside of the building, and upon speaking with an employee, firefighters learned the store was having alarm problems from the storm.

Just after 10:15 p.m., the department received a report of a vehicle fire at a home in the 900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway.  Units arrived to find the homeowner had already extinguished the fire.  They checked for hot spots but found nothing, so they returned to the station.

Around 11:15 p.m., firefighters were sent out to the Brenham Park Apartments, 500 College Avenue, for a vehicle fire about five feet away from the structure.  They made location to find a small fire in the engine compartment of the vehicle.  Units used a dry chemical and water extinguisher to put out the fire.  No damage was done to the building.
