TWO JUVENILES ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH TERRORISTIC THREATS
The Navasota Police Department has announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with terroristic threats that were reported earlier this week.
Through numerous interviews and witness statements, Navasota Police released a statement on Thursday evening saying that they identified the source of social media posts that were said to have suggested a potential threat to Navasota ISD.
Two juveniles have been charged with False Alarm or Report, which is a State Jail Felony.
Police Chief Mike Mize said, “The safety of our schools is our top priority. Threats will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
The statement further said an increased police presence will continue at school campuses and events.
Navasota Superintendent Dr. Stu Musick posted a video on the school district’s Facebook page on Wednesday night.
Musick said that they received a record number of P3 tips regarding the case.
He also warned that there was a large amount of misinformation that was spread on social media regarding this incident.
The threat was made by one student toward the other outside of the school, and did not involve the school itself.
There were rumors of a video circulating, but Musick said no one has been able to produce the video. There was also supposed to be a list of names in a book, but the investigation has thus far not found any evidence of that.
Dr. Musick thanked the parents that have taken the time to talk to their kids about gravity of making these kinds of threats on social media, and encouraged any parents that have not already done it to please do so.
He also warned that spreading false information is part of the problem, and that the “absolute avalanche” of circulating misinformation, or “flat-out lies” is making things worse.
